Angry from Southville
oh no! I have turned into an angry citizen. First bus have increased their fares again which made me ANGRY so I wrote a letter to the local paper and they printed it. It has actually made me feel a bit better about life.

I know Jayne it was a bit dramatic, but I felt it got my point across about just how angry I am. I hope people aren’t laughing at me and think I am unbelievable!

“There are many pushes towards car sharing and sustainable transport but the casual user is not going to use a bus when First make it so difficult. The fare structure is so complicated that the bus user doesn’t know how much it is going to be, and then they find out that it is extortionate! There is a minimum amount, and sometimes no route and bus times information. I use buses four times a day to get to work and I would confidently say that at least 30% of the buses I use either don’t turn up or are at least 10mins late. When car users experience how bad the service is why on earth would they give up their car?
I like Bristol but I have decided to leave partly because of the very poor, very expensive transport. When I visit other cities such as Manchester or Brighton I feel embarrassed that Bristol is so behind, partly because there is no competition but also because First have been allowed to get away with it. The rise in fares is the last straw.”
I didn’t really shout the last bit at them, but I like the last line, it is a definite local paper cliche. I have also never been to Manchester.
