trade you?

I made three bags today, one for me, one for my mum and one for Tom. I can’t tell you what they are like as it is a surprise for Tom though I am concerned he won’t really like it. When I voiced my concerns to my mum she said “well it hasn’t got flowers and girlie things on it” and when I voiced my concerns to Tom he said “why won’t I like it? Does it have flowers and girlie things on it?”. It doesn’t by the way but obviously if I ever want to make something horrible for Tom I now know what to make.

So during the last few weeks of sewing etc people have been telling me I should sell the things I am making. I have always been very hesitant about doing that and today I realised it really is a waste of time as it took me about 6 hours to make all three bags, I spent about £6 on materials and I wouldn’t sell them for more than £5, or at least I don’t think people would buy them for more than £5. So does that mean I would be earning £1.50 per hour? I couldn’t buy any vegetables to fill my bags on that money.

So I have decided I am going to make stuff for trades (and for presents). I made my mum a bag in a trade for some marmalade she made today. I think she only got paid about £1.50 an hour for making that too. It made her say visious things about tescos again. I think Tom is brain washing her.

i am guessing as there are 3 of the same style bags around, that it also doesn’t say C H MEARS on it.

Correct. Mum and I aren’t really as obsessed with C H MEARS so we don’t need bags with that written on. I think your ladies will like this bag. I think they will want one, though they may think it’s a bit modern. They are used to fairground typeface.

You should be glad Tom that they don’t have Tesco on them. They are lovely and you’ll like yours I’m sure. You can also taste my marmalade although I think I cooked it too long. I will have to make some more I think.

I don’t think Tom likes marmalade. Maybe he thinks it has girlie things in it.

i’d be up for a bag with tesco on it if it was home made

    1) because it would be funny

    2) because it would be pirate

Maybe he thinks it has girlie things in it.

    flowers?

  6. sue says:

Yes but you would be giving free publicity to Tesco which would be terrible. They are already the 74th biggest economy in the world (if they were a country)

maybe we should be more concerned about Wallmart (Asda Wallmart), who are the biggest company in the world.

Yes I agree, when we go to US there is always a protest going on about wal-mart but I am not really tempted by their low prices as I don’t have one near me (well there is one in Swindon but I’d have to use the car to get there)

Sounds like you have my problem. People ask me if I type for other people. I’d feel really strange trying to get $100 for a skirt I’d made but when you figure in the price of the material alone that’s the price I’d have to sell it for. Don’t underestimate yourself. Maybe you don’t think someone would pay so much for one item but they might.
