hot heat

ooh I’m so bored of this heat now, especially because my mind has entered winter mode as have my clothes so confused as well as hot. Also the underfloor heating at work went on yesterday, on the hottest October day on record. When is it going to get cold?

Piddly pasta

On Saturday night Tom and I turned my kitchen into a pasta factory.

We turned this:

Pasta

into this:

pastashapes

It took ages and we barely made enough for two but it tasted quite nice. A lesson if you are making pasta is to make big pasta shapes like lasagne for example and if you are making small filled pasta shapes for a dinner party for eight allow at least 4 days.

more about hair

When Tom met me at the bus stop in Edinburgh he expressed surprise at how my hair was shorter and I expressed surprise that his hair was so long and we laughed that we had swapped haircuts….(we have such a laugh!)…

Then back at his flat his flatmate said how she had had a dream the night before that we had swapped haircuts. We laughed again though a bit nervously.

So my working life is full of doom and gloom about climate change and peak oil and about how not only should we not be flying and finding alternative methods of transport but the alternatives are not an option and we really shouldn’t be travelling at all. There is a problem and it will mean we will have to change our lifestyle quite significantly quite soon. One of the lifestyle changes will be travelling less and certainly replacing short car journeys with alternative methods like feet.

But can you maintain a relationship via a conference call? Can my guilt at flying to Edinburgh be overwhelmed by the joyful experience of for once the BA flight being cheaper than Easyjet? Of flying in a really tiny plane on a single leather seat and feeling like I am in first class for the price of an Easyjet ticket. Of getting a sandwich, a piece of cake, a gin and tonic and a cup of tea on my journey and just really excellent service.

We think it’s crazy that people used to handle asbestos or smoke in their office but the next generation will look back and won’t believe we all took flights for no money. I do feel guilty having to do this now but perhaps I feel guilty because I enjoyed it too much.

Whatever next

The delicatessens and hairdressers are merging into one. I was having my hair cut yesterday and my haidresser said “I’m just going to put some sea salt spray on your hair.” I detected a little bit of embarrassment in her voice actually. Apparently it ‘adds fullness and texture like a day at the beach.’

Cup dream

This is what I want my life to be like. Very enamel and bone china and maybe a bit of cream tea. Luckily ebay exists so I am a few steps nearer to making my dream come true.

September must have caused some sort of block and today must be the day for breaking the silence.

Just wrote and deleted lots of things but what I really want to say is in a photograph at my house and unfortunately I am not at my house.

Until tomorrow.
