UK theme

I am really upset. BBC Radio 4 is dropping it’s opening theme tune. Sometimes when I wake up really early I put my radio on and have a little smile because I am glad something so out of date still exists. You have until April to set your alarm for 5.30am to hear it.

They’ll be dropping the National Anthem at closing time next (I don’t know if National Anthem should have caps but it feels like it should).

name mapping

How clever.

Some researchers at UCL have enabled us to find out in which areas our surnames are more common through the Surname Profiler.

Here is the map of my surname with purple being the most common, then red, orange, yellow and so on.

Tom Win

I am reading a book at the moment about the intricacies of English behaviour. One of the points states how at parties it is very un-english to simply introduce yourself to someone. Like it is almost rude to tell someone your name immediately unless you are introduced. So tonight my friend and I started talking to this couple. Turns out she was pregnant so I got to learn of the intimate details of her pregnancy and I didn’t even know her name. Then we got onto the subject of baby names and I asked them what there surname was so we could judge what sort of name their baby could have. They said it was Win. Someone mentioned that Thomas was a good name and then I said no that would be stupid because Tom Win “is a stupid name”. The couple gave each other a sly look and it was at that point I realised what a stupid English trait it is to not ask someone their name before having a conversation about how stupid the name ‘Tom Win’ is because blatantly that was the mans name. I’m afraid in a rather English way I downed my drink and had to leave to get another. I didn’t speak to them again.

that next age

On 10th Feb I am moving to that next age, you know the next decade of age.

On 4th Feb I am celebrating by having a tea party in the pagoda on the Clevedon pier. We are are going to have loads of cake and listen to records on my portable record player. Probably 1940’s records.

Everyone has jobs. Tom is just confusing me by suggesting we might want savoury scones. Kate is suggesting white streamers. We are going on a reccy this weekend.

Twenty-two people confirmed so far. Maximum 30 places. Tom Smith?
