Tom Win
I am reading a book at the moment about the intricacies of English behaviour. One of the points states how at parties it is very un-english to simply introduce yourself to someone. Like it is almost rude to tell someone your name immediately unless you are introduced. So tonight my friend and I started talking to this couple. Turns out she was pregnant so I got to learn of the intimate details of her pregnancy and I didn’t even know her name. Then we got onto the subject of baby names and I asked them what there surname was so we could judge what sort of name their baby could have. They said it was Win. Someone mentioned that Thomas was a good name and then I said no that would be stupid because Tom Win “is a stupid name”. The couple gave each other a sly look and it was at that point I realised what a stupid English trait it is to not ask someone their name before having a conversation about how stupid the name ‘Tom Win’ is because blatantly that was the mans name. I’m afraid in a rather English way I downed my drink and had to leave to get another. I didn’t speak to them again.
