the problem with latex

February 29th, 2004

In case you’re expecting a story about rubber, stop reading now. you’ll be disappointed.

In fact what I am getting at is, when I use Latex, I find it really difficult to be objective about the documents I write and process. The reason being that they just look so good on the page. I really think I could write anything and I’d be able to convince myself it was meaningful.

This is of course bad, because it makes editing documents hard work. But then it’s good, because all my documents just look so beautiful.

so….I don’t really understand why this is so different…I remember you saying once that it just looks different…but…I don’t really get how it looks different. How can you tell if a document is produced in LaTeX (I looked at the site) or if I had produced it in Quark, becuase surely you can make something look however you want it to look? (word I can understand)
