robbed

news updated in bullet form:
- i was robbed in warsaw. someone stole my trolly (from under my nose) in the supermarket, it contained a 2 zloty piece. but luckily nothing else.
- in this part of the world, it would seem to be a faux-pas to pay with anything except the correct change, any bigger, and you’re in trouble
- sleeper trains are the best things ever, sipping a 3.60 zloty Lech at dusk, while zooming along (we’re talking 60kph here) cannot be beaten.
- on our journey from Vilnius to Riga this morning, Toks treated us to a showing of bridge of dragons, dubbed poorly into Lithuanian using just 1 voice. As an additional treat, the Lithuanian woman in front of me attempted to engage me in conversation while squashing my legs (the seats reclined in this coash, almost to the point of being horizontal) for our 5 hour coach journey, all this while she chewed on a seeminly endless supply of fresh gherkins.
- who would have thought a coach journey could be so eventful? there’s more. a 20 minute stop at the motorway service area which doubled as a folk museum and mini-zoo, just south of the Latvian border for a toilet/picnic stop. and that was before i even learnt about the sinkholes, disappearing cows and disappearing houses, for which the area is apparently famous.
- AND i haven’t even mentioned the terrifying driving, with our coach attempting to overtake streams of lorries on a single carriageway, lorries coming the other way, with all 3 parties straddling the carriageway. i had fear. many times over.
what a crazy few days. on to parnu tomorrow. phew!
