TOX

Tuesday, August 17th, 2004

Today I sprayed a fly with fly spray called TOX and I was quite disturbed by the results.
Initially, it appeared to have no effect on on the fly, but after a few seconds the fly seemed to start bouncing off surfaces. Ordinarily when you see a fly fly, it lands, stops, maybe walks about […]

lost the pub?

Sunday, August 8th, 2004

The BBC report that a pub has been ‘lost’. What does that mean? Well, it was dismantled in the 1970s in order to build a road, on the condition that it would be rebuilt elsewhere. Unfortunately, the pieces of the pub have now been lost.

should trains carry bikes?

Sunday, August 8th, 2004

Patrick Crozier over at Transport Blog responded to my comment about his post where he measures progress (or not) on the railways since privatisation.
His recent post, Should trains carry bikes? however only touches on abstract economics and not on the real issue I was complaining about. Let’s hope he clarifies his point.

i am very offended

Saturday, August 7th, 2004

Today I cycled in Bristol city centre, and during my short cycle into town and then out again, I think I experienced every traffic offense known to man.
I was overtaken while overtaking, on a zebra crossing, on a pelican crossing, around a sharp corner, while turning a corner (and so was the overtaker), where […]

but it didn’t enter my head as a proposed action

Friday, August 6th, 2004

yesterday while crossing the road at a zebra crossing on North Street, a cyclist cycled right over the crossing.
he looked a bit startled, turned and apologised for not stopping, he said ’sorry - I was looking at the take-away’.
good excuse, I thought.

McDonald’s Go Active

Thursday, August 5th, 2004

So according to Snackspot today, people have been seeing (and eating) McDonald’s new Go Active meals.
The healthy alternative to a Happy Meal, rather than a free toy they come with a pedometer (or ’stepometer’ if you work for the dreaded burger-mingers). I really want a McDonald’s pedometer. Someone buy me one please. Oh, I […]

will you sting me?

Monday, August 2nd, 2004

Some research has led me to believe that our friendly wasp-look-a-likes are in fact hoverflies (or flower flies if you prefer).

I am still unclear as to whether they sting or not, although I think they don’t. As I suspected, they use their wasp-like appearance to scare people. Wikipedia also has a useful article, How […]

st neots bug infestation

Sunday, August 1st, 2004

This weekend I found myself in St. Neots for the wedding of Sarah’s brother Tim.
Today we had to catch the train back from St. Neots to London, upon arrival at the station I decided it was crap, there were no station staff, no platform information and no train running information. The only information was […]
