free floating bicycles

after a couple of e-mails, i have learnt that both trans manche ferries and hoverspeed will allow me to take my bike (and anyone else and their bikes, in fact) for free as a footpassenger on the newhaven - dieppe route.
the problem with hoverspeed is they finish for this year on sunday, but trans manche go all winter. and the best thing is they do a day return ticket for only £13 from November, and a 3-day return for £19.
the questions which need answering are:
- will it be too cold and / or wet to enjoy cycling after November?
- is there anything to cycle to from Dieppe yet in the absense of a complete Avenue Verte?
