mega weekend

October 19th, 2004

taking megabuses all the way to inverness from brighton was fun, distances etc. already calculated here.

features:

  1. sitting on buses for 15+ hours makes you (me?) ache. a lot.
  2. virtually every megabus we travelled on was completely full, the national express coach to brighton (from london) had 14 passengers, a load factor or about 15-20%
  3. using national express instead of megabus for the whole journey would have cost around £60 instead of £4.50
  4. the highlands are very beautiful
  5. they have a very funny notion of crisps at keele service station
    crisps?
  6. the highland council have produced a very good map showing details of all public transport routes in the highlands, the only thing they missed was cycle routes, but an e-mail to them this morning discovered they want to include them in the next one. you can pick up this map from various places, including the bus station in inverness.
  7. we didn’t spot any seals or dolphins in the moray firth, although apparently they exist
  8. inverness has very good branding across the city, eg paths inverness, shop inverness etc. pathsinvernesscomputerdoctorinvernessvisitinverness
