mega weekend
October 19th, 2004
taking megabuses all the way to inverness from brighton was fun, distances etc. already calculated here.
features:
- sitting on buses for 15+ hours makes you (me?) ache. a lot.
- virtually every megabus we travelled on was completely full, the national express coach to brighton (from london) had 14 passengers, a load factor or about 15-20%
- using national express instead of megabus for the whole journey would have cost around £60 instead of £4.50
- the highlands are very beautiful
- they have a very funny notion of crisps at keele service station

- the highland council have produced a very good map showing details of all public transport routes in the highlands, the only thing they missed was cycle routes, but an e-mail to them this morning discovered they want to include them in the next one. you can pick up this map from various places, including the bus station in inverness.
- we didn’t spot any seals or dolphins in the moray firth, although apparently they exist
- inverness has very good branding across the city, eg paths inverness, shop inverness etc.
