pirate taxi

January 9th, 2005

while sarah was listening to (analogue) radio 4 at new year we thought that there was subversive pirate radio taking place in the vicinity.

every 30 – 60 secs there would be a short bit of glitchy interference. it sounded like some weird glitch electronica, but only briefly. turns out it is actually the taxi rank a few doors down using their radios to communicate. is this illegal, that they are cutting up over our radio signal?

Actually, they are using their own radio device, but it’s poorly filtered, thus interfering with your FM (88 to 108Mhz). Usually you don’t notice it, unless you’re listening to a radio that has a poor signal and if a taxi driver happen to be just next to you using his CB.
