cardy

Due to my unwillingness to wait for Virgin Trains to release their weekend tickets for June (still waiting, on 24 May!), I have planned an alternative route to Newcastle at the end of June, from Bristol via London*. This means travelling GNER instead of Virgin.

For 2 people, travelling with bicycles, this journey involves no less than 22 tickets.

* this is to begin a trip to Norway

this journey involves 3 trains, 1 from bristol to salisbury then salisbury to london waterloo (the cheap route), and then london kings cross to newcastle the following day.

for each train, 3 reservation tickets are required per passenger – 1 for a seat and 2 per bike (1 for the bike and one for you to keep to prove you have a bike reservation). each journey (not including changes) also requires a ticket each, obviously.

so if you’re keeping count, we are up to 14 just to get to london.

and then 3 reservation tickets + 1 ordinary ticket for the newcastle leg.

    = 22.

Don’t encourage me. I am just looking for excuses.
