old bikes

June 13th, 2005

it was only last week that i was thinking about how all the bicycles in brighton, locked to railings, look like they have been abandoned.

people come and go in this city, and i think a lot of people, after discovering their bike has been worn by the sea air, just choose to leave their bikes when they move.

and today i noticed a lot of abandoned bikes have been tagged by the council, who say they will remove them in 7 days if the tag is not removed. i think about time too, because it’s a bit sad seeing so many decaying bicycles.

do these bikes look roadworthy? i often see tied to railings in leeds bikes that are mangled and bent, almost beyond recognition. i hope the council is going to send the bikes to people who need them.

no, in most cases they are now missing components and are corroded beyond recognition.
