Put it as far away from your house as possible. When I had a compost bin I started getting rat sized holes around the base going into the soil. It put me off a bit. I thought about getting one with a built in base and a slide door at the front. You can put any sort of uncooked vegetable matter peelings etc and it’s a good idea to put paper in, either screwed up newspaper or better still if you have a shredder put that in.(not the shredder, the paper) I did find that egg shells and t bags didn’t break down although you can put them in.

Avoid egg shells if you’ve got foxes around. They’ll find their way in and they don’t close the door behind them when they leave.
