impaled plank

This morning I heard a large bang outside my window.
What was it?
A plank fell out of the sky, of course.
As illustrated in the picture – the plank is suspended in mid air after becoming impaled on the fence outside my bedroom window. It turns out a neighbour 2 doors down has scaffolding and this was not secured well enough on the 3rd floor.
