when leaving my flat earlier, i noticed a guy sitting in a plain van outside using an iBook.

could he have been doing anything other than wardriving?

I’m in Sandwich for the weekend with my family for a wedding, luckily one of the neighbours of the cottage we are staying in has broadband and a Netgear WiFi router so we can leech free connections.

Also lucky 3/4 of us brought laptops.

bikes against bush

possibly the coolest form of direct action i’ve ever seen was just brought to my attention by mr_h.. bikes against bush have developed a ‘wireless-enabled’ bicycle, complete with laptop and mobile phone, which allows you to text messages to the bike. the bike then uses a custom-built device to spray paint the messages to the pavement (or other surface the bike is travelling over at the time), as the cyclist cycles along.

the register today reports that the company who runs the Paris Metro is to install wifi on buses.

today the register told me about yak farmers in nepal with wifi.

i find this particularly exciting, not just from a geek perspective (ie rigging hardcore wifi in the middle of the himalayas), but also from a social development perspective. such minimal physical infrastructure could potentially bring so much communication.

they might not have telephones, but they have wifi. nepal wireless has all the info.

while visiting cancom yesterday, i discovered that looseconnection have introduced a few more access points around the city.

this can only be a good thing. except i am currently experiencing wifi surplus, ie supply of wifi is greater than my demand for it, or rather the demand of the machine i don’t have.

words cannot express what just happened, but i’ll try.

i was talking to edward about my ibook and how it was still alive.

30 seconds of trippy LCD patterns later, and my ibook is fried. it no longer powers up.

note how this post covers so many categories, as the areas of my life which will be affected by the loss. ARG

Treo 600 SD GPS and other TLAs

According to infoSync World, Pretec will shortly release some SD devices including GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and a 1.3MP digital camera for Palm devices.

So, will they work with my Treo 600? And will they be out soon? Pretec don’t have any info on their site yet..

i live in the wrong part of the country and it’s too expensive (£4.95 / hour or free to first class passengerS), but from summer GNER will have wifi on trains.
