boris who?
June 3rd, 2008
As an inhabitant of the Coldharbour ward, which really is a very small part of South East London (as we know a ward should contain 5,500 people), I was very pleased to learn that my ward came bottom of the list for votes for our new mayor. Coldharbour had the lowest proportion of votes for Boris of any London ward (just 12.3%).
Hoorah for my neighbours.
London sponsored Facebook poll
April 7th, 2008
Facebook just asked me to take part in a ‘London Sponsored Poll’. It looks like a cross between a public service poll, and an advert. I’m not sure what happens to the results, but it looked like this:

It’s not clear why Brian is at the top (unless the order is randomly generated), and the non-candidate options seem slightly weirdly placed. Is it an advert, and if so, who by?
Some more photographs

I’m celebrating the installation of the iPhotoToGallery plugin for iPhoto – which allows me to upload photos directly from iPhoto to my gallery – with some more photo galleries.
First, a some pictures from Sarah’s birthday trip to Southend-on-Sea.
Second, from the Good Friday meeting at Herne Hill Velodome.
(yes, that cyclist does appear to be chasing a motorcycle – as is common in motor paced racing)
Boris’s Bus Blunder

Ken is obviously paying for Google Mail ads, as I just saw this ‘sponsored link’ at the top of my GMail client.

The Brief Balkan Break

It’s been a while, but I’ve finally (this seems to be a recurring theme) uploaded photos from a brief January trip to the Bulgarian capital, Sofia. A couple to tempt you into the gallery:
Loughborough Junction at Christmas

In case you missed them, these are some pictures I took of Loughborough Junction on Christmas day (2007). Festive, isn’t it?
Some photos from Denmark

A slight delay in service, but I’ve made some photos available from a November trip to Aalborg in Denmark.
Trust me, I’m an everyday person
November 1st, 2007
Some time ago I came up with the idea of a recommendations site where you, me and anybody else who cared could recommend things, specifically in the area of food. I wanted to know where to find the best chorizo, or the best olives, or the best bacon in London. I would invite the public to make nominations in their area and ultimately let the quorum decide what to recommend. So that when I wanted to find candied peel, marzipan or fishcakes, I’d be able to do it with a simple search.
Trusted Places have launched something not a million miles away. Except this is about reviewing restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs, shops an the like. It’s suitably web2.0, and it still needs a bit of work on the search, but it is generally quite an interesting site. All it needs now is for you to make some contributions.

smile.co.uk, Facebook and corporate PR
October 21st, 2007
I’m often surprised what can be found on Facebook. Most recently I found a group which appears to be frequented by employees of smile.co.uk, the internet bank.
It makes you realise how much corporations will begin to worry about the public voices of their employees. With topics of discussion as diverse as ‘How close have you been to being sacked???‘ and the particularly DPA un-friendly ‘Funny Customer Names‘, a high-profile public forum is surely corporate PR nightmare waiting to happen.
